Thai Language and Identity

Working and living in Hong Kong may be a challenge for some new-comers as the spoken language is Cantonese and the written language are mainly Chinese and English. Language plays multiple central roles in our lives and the most significant aspect is its linkage to one's perception and self-identity, which could be reflected by their language choice. How do the Thai community think about the Thai language which is dominated by the host languages in Hong Kong? Do they continue to use the language because of their consciousness of being a Thai national or other reasons? If not, what are the reasons that make them abandon the Thai language and go for other ones? Our interviewees have given us some interesting insights.
